How to receive your badge

Children's University logo

To receive your Space to Dream badge, please present your certificate (which will be emailed to you after you submit your design online) to your Guide Leader before 15 October 2020.

Guide groups are encouraged to facilitate sessions with older Guides guiding younger Guides through the Challenge in small groups. Individual Groups have complete freedom in how this is done.

Ready to take the Challenge?

Your challenge is to design a toy or gadget for someone your age who is moving to Mars.

You will use the process of design thinking – used by the best designers and engineers all over the world – to help you come up with your finished design.

The Challenge website takes you through the basics of the design thinking process. As you work through the Challenge, a real astronaut will tell you about her experience in space and you can choose create your design using free 3D design tools from Makers Empire, or you can draw your design by hand onto the ‘MAKE IT!’ Design Sheet.

Start the Space to Dream Challenge here!

Please submit you Challenge Completion Form here by 25 September 2020 to meet the Challenge deadline.

The Commissioner will consider with each of your designs: (1) is it a good design? (2) did it make me feel something? This could be anything from a ‘wow’ to a ‘whoa’ to a smile. The best will be selected for public exhibition at MOD Museum of Discovery in late 2020. Selected designs will also feature in the Commissioner’s Virtual Gallery of Designs.

You will be sent a certificate by email when you submit your Challenge Completion Form.

Please forward this certificate to your Guide Leader so they can organise collection of your badge.
