2024 was another year of incredible entries into the Commissioner’s Design Thinking Challenge! The Commissioner was very impressed with the creativity and innovation shown by all students who completed her design thinking challenge.

Below are the top-rated 3D and 2D designs for 2024. They will feature in the Space to Dream Travelling Exhibition which will be on display at the Australian Space Discovery Centre throughout December 2024 and January 2025 and travelling to local libraries around South Australia in 2025.

Hollow-Ball

Hollow-Ball is a dome for people who want to get better at netball while they are on Mars. There will be lights in the room. They will project a hologram with little people and a little ball. You might be asking “how can you hold the ball?” well there will be sensors in the room to detect if you are holding the ball. There will also be an oxygen tank, a light switch to keep the right amount of light, and a touch pad in case you get bored or miss home. Don’t forget the engine on the top.

Super Spinner

It helps you tell the time and there are squishy on it for stress. There is also a walkie talkie on it just in case you get lost. It also has a magnet to keep it on your finder and a battery for the watch

Robotman has a hand that can help pick big things up with one hand. It has got a blade to chop through things. It has a microwave, fridge and it has got infinite water.

Pluto the Dog

Everybody needs a friend. My invention is a small, cute dog, made out of tin. Pluto the Dog is a mechanically controlled robot, who can do numerous tricks, such as walking, jumping, sitting, and even barking.

Heads Up

It is a ball and glove. It has a magnet grip so that the ball comes back and wont float off into space. There is also a laser mode that breaks through rock.

Dog-bot 2.0

My robot dog is made out of acid and dust proof metal which has a bit of a furry feel. On the end of the legs are drone paws. It makes the dog able to fly with control around mars, so the dog would not go off into the distance. The bot helps the owner through all of the five senses (Touch, Hear, See, Smell and Taste).

It’s a cookie scented spacesuit that has four buttons that gives you more oxygen,food,water,toys if you are bored.it also has a robot that can write things and a camera

It has vents to give you oxygen and it has many apps that remind you of your family and keep you entertained. To put it on you wrap around your wrist and then one end into the sleeve on the other end

It’s a foldable pogo stick. It has hand straps and feet straps so you don’t fall off. The Boing-a-thon also has a meter to measure how high you go. It folds to about 25cm.
